SFT Diamond Fake Mesh Rail is a play-action man beater out of the Shotgun Bunch Str Offset alignment with 11 personnel. Off the run fake, the bunch releases into a mesh underneath: one receiver crosses flat to the opposite sideline while the other cuts back across the middle before working up the seam, creating natural traffic for defenders in man coverage. The backside receiver on the boundary runs a rail (bender up the sideline) as the deep outlet, while a receiver stacked at the top climbs into a deep crossing route over the middle. The primary read is the mesh cross underneath first, working through the deep crosser, then to the rail route on the boundary if the mesh gets jammed by man defenders.
Watch linebacker depth at the snap since if they bite hard on the run fake, the mesh crossers will have a wide open throwing lane underneath. Man coverage with no help over the top is the ideal shell to attack since the mesh traffic will cause natural rubs and separation against trailing defenders. Cover 3 or Cover 4 shells with deep safeties sitting on the rail route can take away the boundary shot, so be ready to check down to the mesh crossers instead. Look for a user lurk defender sitting in the middle of the field since he can jump the deep crosser if he reads the play-action fake and stays disciplined. Aggressive blitz packages that crash the box on the run fake will get gashed by the quick mesh routes, since the underlying window opens almost immediately after the fake.
Sell the run fake with a full play-action animation before dropping back so linebackers step up and open passing lanes for the mesh routes underneath.
Use this against man coverage looks since the mesh concept is designed to create natural picks and separation against tight man defenders trailing in the bunch.
If the defense shows Cover 2 or Cover 3 shells pre-snap, prioritize the rail route on the boundary since it stretches the deep sideline defender vertically.
Combine this with SFT Diamond Mesh or SFT Diamond X-Cross Trail earlier in a drive so the defense respects the standard mesh look, then hit them with the rail as a home run shot when they jump the underneath routes.
Best called on second and medium or third and short where the play fake can freeze linebackers and the quick mesh crossers give you a high percentage completion with YAC potential.
