Dime 2-3 Single Mug is a defensive set, so the "offense" here is your ability to disguise pressure and coverage out of a six defensive back shell. The alignment puts two defensive linemen on the field with three linebacker/sub bodies, and the "Single Mug" tag means one of those sub linebackers walks up directly over the A gap in front of the center while the rest of the box stays light. Compared to standard Dime 4-1-6 looks that keep four hands in the dirt and one linebacker stacked at depth, this set trades a rusher for an extra second level body and forces the offense to identify who is actually coming. The mugged defender changes the center's slide read before the snap, which is exactly why Blitz Tex 3, DB Blitz Tex 3, and Dime Blitz 2 hit so hard from this look.
The personnel is pure sub package: RLE, RRE, and RDT tags mean your best interior and edge pass rushers stay on the field while SUBLB and SLCB slots put an extra corner and a coverage linebacker into the box. That gives you six defensive backs to match empty, 3x1, and 2x2 spread sets without your linebackers getting isolated in the slot. Against bunch and stack releases you can lock the SLCB on the isolated X and let the safeties play over the top out of Double Bracket or Bracket Switch Willie, which is the cleanest way to erase a single elite receiver in Madden.
The play list is deep enough to run a full game plan from one look. Cover 3 Buzz Show 1, Cover 1 Robber Press, and Cover 1 Hole all present similar pre snap shells, while Tampa 2, Cover 4 Palms, Cover 2 Wild, and Cover 2 Man give you split safety answers from the exact same mug alignment. Because the mugged linebacker can either rush or drop, the offense cannot commit to a protection or a hot read until the ball is snapped, and that hesitation is where users force sacks and picks.
Use this on third and 5 or longer, or on any obvious passing down where the offense goes 3WR or empty and you want your best six coverage bodies on the field.
Show the same mug alignment on back to back plays, then alternate between Cover 1 Robber Press and Cover 4 Palms so the offense cannot key your safety depth from the pre snap shot.
When you call Bracket Switch Willie or Double Bracket, identify the offense's primary target first, then user the free safety to the opposite side to take away the backside dig.
Pinch or spread your linemen and shift the mugged defender based on where the center is set, which changes the slide read and often creates an unblocked rusher on Blitz Tex 3.
If the offense starts running at the vacated A gap, drop into Tampa 2 or Cover 2 Wild from the same look, keep the mugged defender home, and user the middle hook to clean up the second level.
