Franchise Playsheet
Mug Life is a 31 play sub package playsheet that skips the base defense conversation entirely. There are only two formations here, Dime and Nickel, and Dime carries 21 of the 31 calls (68%) across two sets built on Big Dime 3-2-6 and Dime 4-1-6 personnel. Nickel adds the remaining 10 plays (32%) out of a single set. That is a book designed for one job: defending the pass on obvious throwing downs with six defensive backs on the field and enough front variety to still send pressure.
The concept list tells you how it wants to get there. Cover 2 and Trap Coverage give you the two deep looks that punish curls, comebacks and hitch reads from a user who sits on flat defenders. Cover 3 and Cover 3 Sky handle the safe three deep shells on second and long. Cover 1 and Cover 1 Hole give you the man coverage answers with a rat in the hole to erase the middle. Inverted Coverage bends the shell to disguise which safety is dropping. Blitz, LB Blitz and Zone Blitz cover the pressure side, and plays like 1 LB Dog out of both formations let you send the single linebacker from a Dime 4-1-6 alignment with four down linemen already rushing.
Choosing Mug Life over a broader franchise defensive playsheet means giving up run fits and heavy personnel in exchange for depth inside the sub game. You will not be flipping to a 4-3 or 3-4 look to stack the box, but you also will not be scrolling through formations you never call. Everything in here is a third down call, a two minute call or a shotgun spread answer, and because both formations share the same coverage families you can carry the same reads across every snap while changing how many pass rushers you show.
Mug Life wants a secondary built for volume: five or six corners and safeties with high zone coverage, man coverage and play recognition, plus at least two safeties who can carry a slot in Cover 1 Hole. The single linebacker in Dime 4-1-6 needs speed, acceleration and pursuit because he is your only true box defender, and your edge rushers must win one on one since Big Dime 3-2-6 will not scheme pressure for you. This playsheet fits the player who lives on third down, users a deep defender or the lone linebacker every snap, and is comfortable calling a defense that surrenders the run game to take away the pass.
Search every playbook by tag and personnel grouping, not just Mug Life.
Anchor your audible package in the two Dime sets since they hold 21 of 31 plays, and set Cover 2, Cover 3 Sky and Cover 1 Hole as your three primary audibles so you can flip coverage families without changing formation on third and 7 plus.
Use Big Dime 3-2-6 on third and long and in two minute situations where you want maximum coverage bodies, and save the Blitz and Zone Blitz calls from that personnel for third and 10 or longer when the offense has to hold the ball.
Reach for Dime 4-1-6 when you want real rush with sub personnel, and run 1 LB Dog from it on third and 5 to 8 so the four down linemen occupy blockers while the single linebacker attacks a gap.
Make the Nickel set your second and 6 to 9 call, shift the line and use it to hold up runs and RPOs that your Dime looks cannot, then rotate back to Dime once the down and distance gets long.
User the deep middle or the single Dime linebacker on every snap, because with six defensive backs your zone drops will handle the outside and your biggest liability is the crossers and checkdowns underneath.
