Cover 1 Games is a five-man pressure package out of the Dime 2-3 Single Mug set, built around a defensive line stunt (the crossing red arrows on the two interior rushers show a games/twist stunt) paired with man coverage across the board and a single deep safety over the top (the blue rotation shows the free safety sliding to the middle of the field). The stunt is designed to confuse the offensive line's blocking assignments up front and create an unblocked rusher, while the six defenders underneath lock up in press or trail man technique. This is a blitz-beater killer against static protection schemes, not a zone or coverage-drop concept, so your primary read as the defense is simply trusting the stunt to win and squeezing man coverage until the quarterback is forced off his spot.
Pre-snap, check for a mugged look at the second level and identify which gap the stunting linemen are attacking so you can user the correct rusher for the fastest home run stunt. Watch the free safety depth before the snap. A deep single high alignment confirms Cover 1 shell, which tells the quarterback to expect man coverage underneath with no help over the top on comebacks or deep outs. Post-snap, key the offensive line's set. If guards and tackles are locking on immediately without sliding to the stunt, the games concept is working and pressure will arrive quickly. This call gets shut down by quick game concepts like slants and hitches, since the stunt takes an extra half second to develop and man coverage can get beat on timing throws before pressure ever shows. Watch for play action or RPO looks. If the offense sells run action, the stunt can get sealed easily by combo blocks and your man defenders will be isolated with no underneath help against crossers.
Call this on early downs or third and medium when you expect the offense to use standard five or six man protection, since the line stunt needs one-on-one blocking to actually free up a rusher.
Check the running back and tight end alignment pre-snap. If either stays in to block, that confirms man matchup problems for the offense and you should stay with the call.
Use your user-controlled defender on one of the stunting linemen or the mugged linebacker to manually time the twist and beat a guard or center who is sitting still in pass pro.
Disguise this look by mixing it with Cover 1 Robber Press or Cover 1 Hole from the same 2-3 Single Mug set so quarterbacks cannot key the single high safety rotation before the snap.
Avoid calling this into empty backfield sets or max protect looks, since extra blockers can pick up the stunt and leave your coverage exposed on an island for too long.
