Breakdown

HB Zone Wk is an inside zone run out of Singleback Wing Stack with 12 personnel on the field, giving you extra blocking with two tight ends and a wing alignment to the weak side. The offensive line and TEs execute a zone blocking scheme that flows weak, double teaming down linemen at the point of attack and climbing to the second level to wall off linebackers. This is a run play with no route combos to diagram, so the primary read is the HB reading his blocking flow, pressing the weak side hole, and reacting off the double teams to find the crease based on how the defensive front and linebackers flow to the play side.

Defensive Reads

Pre-snap, identify if the defense has shifted its front or linebackers toward the wing side, since a weak side bias by the defense kills this run before the snap. Watch for a stacked box with eight or more defenders near the line, which is the clearest sign to check to a different play or hot route out of this call. Post-snap, key the play side linebacker's first step, if he flows hard downhill immediately he is reading run correctly and can blow up the zone scheme. User defenders spying the weak side A or B gap can jump the cutback lane, so avoid this call if you see a defender manually creeping toward that gap before the snap. Beat this run against teams that overload the strong side with blitzers or stunts, since the weak side zone action exploits vacated gaps on that side of the formation.

Usage Tips

Check the box count before the snap and only run this into light fronts with six or fewer defenders inside the tackles.

Look for linebackers cheating to the strong side of the Wing Stack alignment, since that opens up the weak side running lane this play is designed to hit.

Use the B or Circle button to bounce or cutback if the play side is clogged, this scheme rewards patience and vision over pure speed to the hole.

Pair this with HB Dive and HB Stretch from the same set to keep defenders guessing on zone direction and hole location.

Mix in PA Power O or Zone Fake Jet off the same look to punish linebackers who key run fast and bite on the zone action.
