PA Power O sells the Power O run action out of Singleback Wing Stack before releasing three routes into a play-action shot. The deep red route runs a vertical seam that bends outside, working as the primary shot play beater against man coverage, while the yellow route stems into an out and up double move to attack a cornerback biting on the run fake. The white checkdown releases into a flat/angle route as the safety valve against zone drops. Read the deep red seam first for a home run shot, then work back to the yellow out and up, and finish with the white flat as your outlet against pressure.
Defensive Reads
Watch linebacker depth at the snap: if they step up hard on the run fake, the deep red seam and yellow out and up will have wide open throwing lanes behind them. Identify single high versus two high safety shells before the snap, since single high leaves the deep red route isolated on a man defender with no help over the top. As the defense, sit a linebacker or nickel defender in the shallow zone to jump the white flat route, which is the quarterback's built in checkdown under pressure. User the deep safety and key the tight end or receiver running the red vertical, since that is the primary explosive play the offense wants to hit. Blitzing off the edge disrupts the play-action timing quickly, so an offensive line that struggles with Power O blocking will force a rushed or errant deep read throw.
Usage Tips
Run this on early downs like first and ten or second and short so the defense respects the Power O run fake and bites downhill.
Check the safety alignment pre-snap: if you see two deep safeties rotate down hard on the play fake, throw the deep red seam route immediately behind them.
Use the yellow out and up as your primary man beater against aggressive corners playing tight press, since the double move creates natural separation once the fake sells.
Hot route the white flat route into a deeper drag if you are facing zone heavy coverage that sinks underneath, giving yourself a quicker rhythm throw.
