Key the flow of the middle linebacker after the snap, if he bites on the fake the dig will be wide open, if he sits and reads the quarterback the window shrinks fast. Be ready to check into a quick game or hot route the checkdown against disguised zone blitzes since the play fake delays your protection and exposes the quarterback to interior pressure. Watch for a user controlled defender lurking in the middle of the field, a spy or robber sitting in that dig lane can jump the route and turn it into a pick six.

Usage Tips

Run this on early downs like 1st and 10 or 2nd and medium so the play fake actually threatens defenders selling run support.

Check the linebacker depth pre snap, if they are stacked tight to the box the fake will hold them and open the dig window immediately after the snap.

Use motion or a shift out of the Wing Stack look to bait the defense into revealing man versus zone before the snap.

If you see two deep safeties sitting high, work the dig to the middle hole since the underneath defenders are your only real threat.

Pair this call with HB Dive or HB Power O earlier in the drive so the play action fake carries real weight and linebackers respect the run key.
