Breakdown

Double Corner out of Singleback Wing Stack (12 personnel) shows a five man route concept designed to attack the deep and intermediate zones on both sides of the field. To the left, the TE runs a deep corner route breaking outside while an underneath receiver crosses on a shallow drag heading opposite direction. To the right, the play mirrors with a deep corner route stemming outside and a receiver running a flat/out route that sits underneath, with a third route crossing through the middle to occupy the flat. This is a zone beater built to stretch cornerbacks vertically while flooding the underneath zones with crossers, and the primary read progression starts with whichever corner route the coverage shell leaves single high or vacates, then works down to the underneath drag or flat route if both corners are covered.

Defensive Reads

Watch safety alignment before the snap since a two high shell signals soft spots on the outside for the corner routes to attack Post snap track the flow of the linebackers on the crossing routes, if they sink into zone drops the shallow drag and flat routes will be there for easy completions User controlled defenders who jump the underneath crossers will open up the corner routes for a big play down the sideline Cover 3 with a hard flat defender can take away the shorter routes but leaves the deep corner vulnerable if the deep third defender bites on the underneath crosser Man coverage with no safety help over the top gets exposed by the corner route since it breaks away from the defender's outside leverage

Usage Tips

Check pre-snap for two high safety shells since Double Corner is built to exploit the seams and sidelines that two high defenses leave open on the corner routes

If the defense shows single high safety look to the crossing routes underneath since the corner routes will likely have help over the top

Use hot routes to convert one of the corner routes into a fade if you diagnose man coverage on the outside receiver for an easy one on one throw

This play works best on second or third and long when you need to attack the sideline and pick up chunk yardage against zone drops

Pair this with PA Dig or Curl Post Drag from the same set to keep defenses guessing between vertical shots and underneath combinations
