HB Belly Weak out of Singleback Wing Stack 12 personnel is a power run play designed to attack the weak side off tackle. The line shows down blocks flowing weak with the fullback or extra blocker leading through the hole to kick out the edge defender, while the running back takes a slight belly path to sell misdirection before hitting the crease. This is a pure run play with no route concept, and the primary read progression is bounce or bang: identify the flow of the kickout block first, then decide whether to press the hole downhill or bounce outside if the edge is sealed.
Pre-snap, check linebacker depth and alignment since stacked or crashing linebackers can blow up the weak side kickout block. Watch for safety rotation toward the run strength, a safety cheating down weak side can fill the crease before the back gets there. Post-snap, key the edge defender's reaction to the kickout blocker, if he stays outside contain the play is more likely to bang inside cleanly. This play struggles against gap exchange or scrape exchange linebacker calls that replace the blocker's intended target. User-controlled defenders flowing hard downhill on run reads can beat this if they diagnose the misdirection quickly, so vary tempo and pair with play-action to slow their trigger.
Run this out of neutral or run-heavy down and distance like 1st and 10 or 2nd and short to keep defenses honest.
Check the defensive front pre-snap for light boxes or safeties rotated out of the box before snapping, since Belly Weak thrives against six man or lighter fronts.
Use the misdirection footwork to freeze linebackers who are keying the mesh point, then plant and get skinny through the crease.
Pair this with HB Power O and HB Duo from the same set to keep linebackers guessing on which side the puller or blocker attacks.
Sequence it after PA Jet Sweep or Jet Sweep looks so defenses respect outside speed and overplay the edge, opening the interior lane for Belly Weak.
