Wide Zone Wk is an outside zone run play out of Singleback Bunch X Nasty with 11 personnel. The diagram shows the HB taking a wide zone track to the weak side while the line flows in unison to seal backside cutback lanes, with the single receiver on the boundary running a vertical release to occupy the corner. This is a zone run play designed to stretch the defense laterally and give the ball carrier a one cut, get downhill decision based on the flow of the front seven.
Key the play side linebacker's first step, if he flows hard outside with the zone track you want to user a defender to spill the run back inside. Watch for defensive ends and edge rushers crashing hard upfield, this play is designed to be gap sound against contain rushers who overrun the zone. Bring a safety down into the box pre-snap against Singleback Bunch looks to add a fast flow defender who can beat the線 wide zone stretch before it develops. Blitz packages that send extra defenders off the weak side edge without maintaining outside contain can be exploited if your defenders overpursue. Post-snap, user the middle linebacker to sit in the cutback lane since offenses expect this defender to flow hard with the stretch action.
Check the box count before the snap and only run this into light fronts or fronts without extra defenders stacked to the weak side.
Use the RB's aiming point as your visual cue: press the line of scrimmage wide, then plant off the first color you see rather than dancing behind the line.
Pair this with Cheat HB Zone Wk or HB Zone Wk from the same set so the defense cannot key on personnel tendencies and has to respect zone runs to both sides.
Ideal on early downs (1st and 10 or 2nd and short) when you want to stay ahead of the sticks and set up play action shots later in the series.
If the defense shows a hard crash or an overloaded edge, bail into Jet Sweep Wk or PA Jet Sweep out of the same formation to punish the aggressive read.
