PA Sprint HB Flat runs a play-action sprint out of Singleback Bunch X Nasty, faking the handoff before the QB works to the flat side. From the bunch alignment, the two yellow routes push vertically and then break outward, one settling as an out at intermediate depth and the other stretching deep toward the sideline, while the blue route runs a deep crossing route away from the play side. The red route from the backfield releases into the flat as the underneath outlet. This is a play-action sprint concept that beats zone coverage by stretching the flat-to-corner ladder on one side while the crossing route punishes zone defenders who bite on the run fake, with the primary read progression going flat route first, then the intermediate out, then the deep sideline route if the corner overplays underneath.
Defensive Reads
Watch the flat defender immediately after the snap, if a linebacker or slot corner sinks late because of the run fake the flat route is open for an easy checkdown. Key the play side corner depth pre-snap, a corner playing tight man leverage is vulnerable to the out route sitting down in front of him. Identify Cover 3 or Cover 4 shells before the snap since the deep sideline route can win one on one against a flat footed corner who is reading run action. User the deep crossing route defender in man coverage to eliminate the backside window, since this route is the second read once the flat is covered. Beware disguised blitzes that show two deep safeties then rotate down, since the play action fake delays protection and can leave the QB exposed if a nano blitz gets home before the flat route develops.

Check the defense pre-snap for two deep safeties, this signals zone coverage where the flat to out to corner ladder on the play side is easiest to exploit.
Hot route the deep crossing route into a shallow drag if you diagnose man coverage with no safety help over the top, giving the QB a quicker underneath answer.
Pair this call with Flat Y Leak or Flat Y Seam earlier in a series so the defense respects inside leak routes, making the outside flat and out combo in this play hit even faster.
