Dash Flood Switch is a flood concept out of Shotgun Trio Y-Flex that stacks three receivers into one deep-to-short vertical flood while switching the release assignments to confuse man defenders. The switch release causes natural rubs and picks at the top of the route stack, making this a strong man beater against press or man match coverage, while the deep to intermediate to flat flood still stresses zone defenders who cannot cover every level. The primary read progression starts at the deep corner or go route to hold the safety, then works down to the intermediate flood route, and finishes at the flat or check down route as the outlet.

Defensive Reads

Read the safety alignment before the snap, since a single high safety cannot help over the top on both the deep flood route and the intermediate crosser, giving you a clean vertical shot. Key the flat defender or curl to flat player after the snap, because Dash Flood Switch is designed to put that defender in a bind between the shallow flood route and the deep out breaking route. Watch for user controlled linebackers dropping into a lurk spot in the intermediate zone, since they can jump the switch release routes if the offense telegraphs the timing. Identify press man coverage on the outside receiver in the switch release, since the natural pick created by the switch is most effective against tight press alignment rather than off man coverage. Recognize disguised blitz packages that bring extra rushers off the edge, since a hot route adjustment on the flood side or a quick check down read is necessary to avoid a negative play against pressure.

Usage Tips

Diagnose the coverage shell pre-snap by checking if the safeties are in a two high shell or rotated to one high, since Dash Flood Switch punishes single high looks that leave the flood side one on one.

If you see man coverage with press corners, trust the switch release to create natural traffic and separation, and be ready to hit the crosser or flood route quickly before the pick wears off.

Against zone shells, work your eyes top down through the progression, holding the deep route with a pump or ball fake to freeze the flat defender before coming down to the intermediate route.

Use this play on second and medium or third and medium situations where the defense is likely to sit in zone drops, since the flood concept forces conflicted zone defenders to choose between levels.
