The two receivers on the trips side cross paths at the snap, with the outside receiver working underneath on a deep in and the inside receiver climbing vertically before breaking back across the field on a deep dig, stacking two horizontal levels for the quarterback to read. The backside X runs a shallow in cutting away from the concept, giving the QB a check down escape if the levels combo is capped, and the HB stays in or releases late to help with protection against the rush. The primary read progresses from the deep dig at the top of the stack down to the underneath in route, working high to low based on the linebacker or safety flowing to the shallow level.

Defensive Reads

Pre snap, identify two deep safeties, since Levels Switch is designed as a Cover 2 beater that attacks the underneath zones defenders vacate to protect the deep half. Post snap, key the flow of the middle linebacker, if he sinks with the dig route the underneath in route will be open for an easy completion. Watch for a user controlled safety sitting in the deep middle or a lurking linebacker jumping the dig route, that is the primary defender who can take away the top read and force the quarterback down to the shallow in. Usage Tips

Look for two high safeties pre snap since Levels Switch is designed to stress the seams and hook zones that Cover 2 leaves open underneath the deep half safeties.

Use the switch release to manipulate man defenders, since the crossing paths create natural traffic that forces a pick or rerouting against man coverage, opening up the dig against Cover 3 or Cover 1.

If you see a blitz look, hot route the backside shallow in to a quick out or use it as your check down since it clears out fast and holds up behind man beaters.

Pair this play with Four Verticals or Mtn Spot Y Corner in your play calling sequence so defenses cannot sit on the levels concept once they start keying the switch release.

Best called on second and medium to second and long, giving the quarterback time to work through the high to low read from the dig down to the underneath in route.
