Slants Middle out of Shotgun Split Slot Offset is a quick game man beater built around three slant routes converging on the middle of the field, with the outside receiver on the far side running a deep comeback to hold the corner and a running back releasing to the flat as a checkdown. The tight end and the slot receiver both break inside on slants at different depths, creating a natural pick or rub against man coverage while giving the quarterback a stacked read from inside out. Primary progression starts with the shallow slant crossing underneath, then works to the deeper slant breaking at the numbers, and finishes with the flat route to the running back if both slants are covered.

Defensive Reads

Use the flat route to the running back as your built in hot route answer versus blitz looks, especially if you see linebackers creeping toward the box pre-snap. Pair this with a play action shot play from the same set like Mtn PA Y Cross or Mtn PA Double Posts to keep the defense honest once they start jumping the quick slants. Attack Cover 3 by throwing the deeper slant into the seam window before the flowing linebacker can undercut it, and use the comeback route on the backside to hold single high safeties or press corners who bail too fast. Best called on second and short or first down to stay ahead of the sticks, since the quick throws limit sack risk and get the ball out before pressure arrives.
