Check the safety alignment pre-snap: if you see two high safeties sitting deep, the crosser has room to work underneath before the safeties can rotate over.

Motion or shift the slot to confirm man versus zone, then hot route the flat back into a quick option route if the defense shows blitz look.

Pair this play with Mtn RPO Read Swing or Mtn Y Stick earlier in a series so the defense respects the run action, which makes the play-action fake on Y Cross even more effective later.

Lead with your eyes to the far vertical to move the safety, then come back to the Y crosser as it clears the middle linebacker for the real throw.
