Play diagram for RPO Alert Out from Shotgun Bunch Y-Flex in Madden 27

Not in any team playbook.

Breakdown

RPO Alert Out is run out of Shotgun Bunch Y-Flex with 11 personnel, pairing an outside zone run read with a quick out route on the backside. The bunch side to the right runs an angle route out of the stack while the isolated receiver on the backside runs a hard out breaking toward the sideline, giving the QB a pre-snap and post-snap key to throw or hand off. The offensive line executes zone run blocking to the play side, and the QB's primary read progression starts with the run alert (defender numbers in the box) before flipping to the backside out route if the corner sits inside or a linebacker crashes down.

Defensive Reads

Watch the flow of the linebackers at the snap, if they crash hard toward the run action, the out route will be wide open behind them. Identify off man or zone corners on the backside pre-snap, since a press corner can jump the out route and turn it into a pick six. Look for a lurking safety or slot defender sitting in the throwing lane on the out route, especially in Cover 3 or Cover 4 match schemes. Key the play side defensive end and outside linebacker, if they stay disciplined on the run fit, the RPO read should stay on pass. Blitzes from the play side can cause the run trigger to get gummed up, so keying blitz pre-snap should push the decision toward the quick pass.

Usage Tips

Check the box count before the snap and let the alert dictate your decision, if the defense has six or more in the box, pull it and throw the out immediately.

Use the out route as your answer to Cover 3 or Cover 4 shells where the corner sinks or plays off, since the throw is quick and low risk.

Hot route the backside out into a speed out against man coverage to create more separation versus press corners.

Pair this play with Inside Zone or HB Power from the same set so the defense has to respect the run look every time you come out in Bunch Y-Flex.

Best used on early downs or short yardage third downs where the defense is forced to respect both the run alert and the quick pass simultaneously.
