Mtn Spacing Switch is a spacing concept out of Bunch Y-Flex that attacks horizontal zones and man leverage with a switch release from the bunch side. The bunch trio runs a switch releasing into a corner route and a shallow out sitting underneath, while the backside receiver runs a deep comeback to hold the corner. The switch release creates natural rub traffic to shed man coverage, making this a strong zone and man beater, with the primary read progression starting on the switch corner route, then working down to the underneath out, and finally to the backside comeback if the coverage rotates away.

Defensive Reads

Presnap check the corner and safety alignment on the bunch side, since press man or tight inside leverage is vulnerable to the switch release rub. Post snap key the flat or curl defender on the bunch side, if he jumps the underneath out route immediately throw the switch corner behind him. Watch for a user controlled defender sitting in the deep third or deep quarter over the bunch side, this is the primary threat that can undercut the corner route if not accounted for in the progression. Cover 2 with two deep safeties can be tricky since the deep half defender can rob the corner route, so be ready to check down to the backside comeback route. Blitz packages that bring extra rushers off the backside edge can compress your time to work through the progression, so identify pressure presnap and be ready to speed up your first read to the switch release.

Usage Tips

Presnap identify whether the corner on the bunch side is playing outside leverage or shaded inside, since the switch release is designed to exploit inside leverage defenders getting picked off by the rub.

Against zone shells like Cover 3 or Cover 4, work the switch corner route first because it sits in the deep outside void created by the flat defender jumping the underneath out.

Against man coverage, trust the natural pick from the switch release and target whichever bunch receiver comes open first rather than forcing the first read.

This play works best on second and medium or third and short since the underneath out and comeback give you quick access throws if the corner route is covered.

Pair this with Spacing or Spacing Switch from the same set to keep the defense guessing between full field spacing and the bunch side switch release, then mix in Mtn Cross Out to attack the opposite hash if the defense starts sinking underneath.
