Bunch Str Nasty takes the standard Shotgun 11 personnel look and compresses it into a strong side bunch with a nasty split adjustment, meaning the outside receiver walks down tight to the numbers while the tight end and slot stack inside him. Where a spread set like Shotgun Trips or Doubles stretches the defense horizontally and forces the secondary to declare early, Bunch Str Nasty jams three targets into a tight cluster on one side and leaves a single receiver isolated on the weak side. That alignment forces the defense into a choice: play man and eat the traffic, or bump to zone and let you flood a hole with the bunch. The back stays in the gun next to the QB, so you keep Inside Zone, Cheat Inside Zone, Pin Pull Toss, and Crack Toss live off the same picture.
The compressed spacing is the whole point. Corndog Trail, Y Trail, Mtn Trail Fork, and Mtn Mesh Trail all use the bunch to generate natural rubs that wreck man coverage without you needing to hot route anything. Mesh Flat Spot, Z Mesh Quick, Bunch Smash, and Z Spot Quick attack zone with layered spacing concepts where the flat, hook, and corner defenders all get put in conflict at once. Dagger and PA Double Post give you the deep answers when a defense starts squatting on the short stuff, and the Mtn variants shift protection and route depth for slide protection looks against edge pressure.
Personnel wise, the tags tell you how to build the set. SLWR means your slot receiver plays inside the bunch where quickness and route running beat physicality, and a high release rating there makes the rub routes actually connect. 3DRB and Power HB give you the split between HB Slip Screen, Mtn HB Slip Screen, Mtn HB Angle, and Mtn HB Seam on the pass side versus Inside Zone and the toss game on the run side. The Gadget tag opens Mtn Double Pass, which is the punish call once the secondary starts jumping the underneath rubs. The isolated weak side receiver is the sneaky matchup advantage here: with three defenders occupied by the bunch, whoever is on that solo X is on an island, and a Dagger or PA Corner read against a single high shell is free money.
Read the coverage over the bunch pre snap: if the defense stacks three defenders tight on the cluster, go to the trail concepts for man beaters, and if they bump out into zone spacing, call Mesh Flat Spot or Z Mesh Quick instead.
On third and medium, Y Flat Quick, Z Spot Quick, and Mtn Curls give you fast rhythm throws off the compressed release, and hot routing the point man in the bunch to a slant is the quick answer against Cover 3.
Establish Inside Zone and Cheat Inside Zone early so linebackers respect the box, which is what makes RPO Zone Peek and RPO Read Bubble legitimate constraint plays later in the game.
Use HB Slip Screen and Mtn HB Slip Screen against opponents who blitz your edge repeatedly, since the compressed formation pulls defenders inside and gives your 3DRB a huge alley on the perimeter.
Save Mtn Double Pass and PA Cheat Double Post for a possession where you have already hit the underneath rubs multiple times and the user is committed to squatting on the bunch.
