Corndog Trail is a play-action style trail concept out of Shotgun Bunch Str Nasty that overloads the field with a trail route combo. From the bunch alignment, the inside receiver runs a deep corner/vertical breakoff while the middle receiver works a trail route underneath that crosses the formation, and the outside receiver from the bunch runs a deep out that breaks toward the sideline. The backside receiver runs a deep dig or drive route crossing the field from the opposite side, giving the quarterback a full-field flood read with the trail concept as the primary man beater against man coverage due to the natural rub created by the bunch alignment.

Read the cornerback leverage on the bunch receivers pre-snap, press man alignment signals a strong chance the trail route wins immediately off the rub Watch the middle linebacker depth, a shallow drop suggests man coverage responsibility on the trail route which favors the offense Identify single high safety shells since that alignment leaves the deep out route from the bunch exposed against off coverage Key on user controlled defenders flowing toward the trail crosser, if they sit and lurk in the shallow zone the deep corner route becomes the better answer Recognize zone blitz packages by watching for defensive backs dropping into shallow zones immediately after the snap, which can jump the trail route timing

Use this play on second or third and medium when you expect man coverage since the bunch alignment naturally creates picks for the trail route
Check the safety shell pre-snap, if you see two high safeties the deep out and corner routes have more room to work against off coverage corners
Hot route the backside dig into a deeper dig or comeback if you diagnose zone coverage to give your quarterback an easier zone beater window
