PA Cheat Double Post is a play-action shot play out of Bunch Str Nasty in Shotgun 11 personnel that uses jet motion across the formation before the fake to freeze linebackers and hold the safeties. Off the bunch, two receivers stack vertical posts breaking inward at different depths while the third bunch receiver clears out on a corner-breaking route toward the boundary, and the backside receiver runs a shallow drag flat route as a check down against pressure. The primary read progression starts with the deep post from the inside bunch receiver, works to the underneath post breaking behind it, and comes down to the flat route if both posts are capped, making this a strong Cover 2 and Cover 4 beater that attacks the seams vacated by the play-action freeze.
Defensive Reads
Pre-snap, identify single-high versus two-high safety shells since this play is built to exploit two-high defenses like Cover 2 and Cover 4 by overloading one half of the field with two post breakers. Watch linebacker depth at the snap: if they step up hard on the run fake, the underneath post and seam window behind them opens immediately for a quick strike throw. Post-snap, track the play side safety leverage on the double post stack, if he widens with the corner route or bites on the shallow post, the deeper post is open behind him. Beware user-controlled safeties sitting in the middle of the field robbing the post, since a rangy user defender can undercut both posts if he reads the play-action fake and stays home. Man coverage with an overhang blitzer off the edge can disrupt this play quickly, so identify blitz alignment before the snap and be ready to check down to the flat route if the protection breaks down.
Usage Tips
Use this from under center feel spacing on early downs like 1st and 10 or 2nd and medium where linebackers are more willing to bite on the play-action fake.
Check the safety shell before the snap: if you see two-high safeties sitting deep, this play is designed to split them with the double post, so trust the concept and look off the middle safety.
Against Cover 4 quarters, the deep post from the bunch stack tends to sit in the seam window created by the corner route pulling the flat defender and safety out of position, so hit it in rhythm.
If the defense shows man coverage or press corners, hot route the backside flat route into a quick slant or option route to give yourself a faster answer against blitzes.
