Breakdown

FS Middle Blitz 3 is a Cover 3 zone blitz out of Dime personnel that sends the free safety on a middle A-gap blitz while dropping the strong safety into a deep middle third. Underneath, both outside corners carry flat responsibility with drag conversion routes to the numbers, the WILL and SAM zone off to the hook/curl areas, and the third rusher spikes downhill alongside the FS to collapse interior gaps. This is a five-man pressure zone beater designed to disguise the extra rusher pre-snap while still rolling a defender over the top, so the primary read for the QB attacking it is working the drag/flat combo to the boundary before the underneath zone defenders can settle.

Defensive Reads

Pre-snap, check if the offensive line is sliding protection toward the boundary since that tells you the FS blitz lane is likely picked up early Watch the running back alignment, if he checks into a chip or scan protection the interior blitz gets home much slower and you need the underneath zone to hold longer This beats quick game and boundary drag combos poorly if the flat corners jump routes too early, so stay patient and read hip turn on the receiver before breaking Man heavy or spread empty formations struggle against this since the FS blitz creates a free rusher on backside protection slides Elite screen game and RPO checks can gash this call because the underneath defenders are keying run flow instead of getting depth in zone drops If the QB no huddles into a quick slant or stick concept, the deep middle third defender must trust his eyes and not bite on shallow crossers

Usage Tips

Show this look out of a two-high shell pre-snap and rotate the free safety down late to disguise the middle blitz timing

Pair this call with Cover 3 Buzz Match or SS Sim Pressure 3 in the same set so offenses cannot key blitz tendencies off your Dime personnel package

Use this on passing downs like 2nd and long or 3rd and 7 plus where offenses expect a drop back concept and get caught off guard by the extra rusher

User the SS dropping to the deep middle third to rob any dig or post route trying to sit down behind the underneath zone

If the offense checks to a hot route beating the A-gap blitz, mix in Dbl Safety Blitz or Mug Sim Pressure next series to keep the pressure picture unpredictable
