Franchise Playsheet
Air Raid Pistol is one of the most concentrated playsheets in the franchise catalog: 30 plays, every single one of them from Pistol, split across three sets. There is no Gun package to fall back on, no Singleback, no under center I Form or Strong. What you get instead is a deep, focused Pistol menu that runs 11 personnel (1 RB, 1 TE, 3 WR), 20 personnel (2 RB, 0 TE, 3 WR) and 10 personnel (1 RB, 0 TE, 4 WR) out of an identical quarterback depth and backfield alignment, so your opponent sees the same picture on every snap and has to guess whether it is Inside Zone, a Read Option keep, a Triple Option, or a play action shot like China Y Corner.
The concept list tells you exactly what this book is built for. Counter, Power Run, Dive, Inside Zone and Zone Run give you a real downhill run game from depth, which is the whole point of Pistol: the back gets a head start that a Gun set does not give him, while the quarterback keeps the read option and triple option threat that under center formations cannot offer. Layered on top are Motion plays, Play Action, Crosser concepts and standard Pass Play dropbacks, so the same alignment that just handed off on Power can rip a China Y Corner high low behind a safety who bit on the run action.
Choosing Air Raid Pistol over a broader book is a trade. You give up formation variety and the ability to fundamentally change the picture between drives. In exchange you get complete tendency disguise inside one formation family, faster audibles (every flip stays inside Pistol, so nothing about your backfield or quarterback depth changes), and a run to pass marriage that is genuinely hard to defend when you commit to learning all 30 plays. This is a book for the player who wants one formation mastered rather than ten formations sampled.
Air Raid Pistol needs a mobile quarterback with good ball carrier vision and enough throw on the run to punish a defense that overplays the Read Option and Triple Option keep. Pair him with a decisive one cut back for Inside Zone and Counter, a second back with receiving ability so the 20 personnel set is a real threat and not just a run tell, and offensive linemen with strong run blocking and impact blocking for the Power Run and Dive downhill looks. This is the playbook for a player who wants to master one formation completely, live in the option game, and set up play action shots off a committed ground attack rather than shuffle through a dozen formations every drive.
Search every playbook by tag and personnel grouping, not just Air Raid Pistol.
Build your entire audible package inside Pistol 11 personnel and make it your base: pair Inside Zone, Read Option and a play action shot so first and second down all look identical off the snap.
Use the 20 personnel (2 RB, 0 TE, 3 WR) set on second and short to fourth and short. Two backs in Pistol sells Dive and Power Run while keeping a receiving back available on a hot route flat or angle release.
Save the 10 personnel (1 RB, 0 TE, 4 WR) four wide set for third and 7 plus. It forces the defense to declare coverage pre snap and gives your Crosser and China Y Corner style high low concepts the horizontal spacing they need.
Run the ball early even when it is not working. Counter, Zone Run and Power Run are what make the Play Action and Motion plays in this book hit, and without that setup your shots die against deep zone.
Motion a receiver before every snap regardless of the call. Because the formation never changes, motion is your primary tool for reading man versus zone and for shifting the defense off your intended run gap.
