HB Zone Wk is a weakside inside zone run out of Singleback Bunch Ace with 12 personnel. The diagram shows the offensive line stepping in unison toward the weak side while the HB takes a downhill angle path behind them, reading the double team and combo blocks up front rather than a predetermined gap. This is a pure run play with no play-action fake shown, designed to attack the weakside edge and cutback lanes created by zone blocking movement. The primary read progression for the HB is backside cutback first, then bounce to the play side C gap if the frontside is clogged.
Watch for linebacker depth at the snap since shallow linebackers crashing the weak side will kill the cutback lane immediately. Identify if the defense is running a 4-3 over or under front, as under fronts shift the natural weak side and change where the cutback should hit. Look for a safety rotating down into the box pre-snap, which signals run support and should push the HB read toward the frontside bounce instead of the backside cutback. User-controlled defenders sitting in the A or B gap threaten to blow up the zone combo blocks before the HB can make his first cut. This run struggles against fast-flow defenses that key the backfield quickly, so defenses selling hard edge pressure or stacking the box with eight defenders shut this down.
Check the defensive front pre-snap and identify which side is the weak side before the snap since this play hinges on that leverage. Use the left or right stick to manually press the HB through the line if the CPU logic picks a lane too early against stacked fronts. This play works best on early downs like first or second and short to medium yardage when defenses have not committed extra defenders into the box. Pair it with HB Slash and Duo out of the same Bunch Ace look to keep linebackers guessing between inside zone and gap schemes without changing formation. Against heavy blitz looks, motion the bunch receiver pre-snap to identify man versus zone coverage and confirm the weak side is not overloaded before snapping.
