PA Boot Slide is a play-action rollout out of Singleback Bunch Ace that pulls the quarterback away from the bunch to the boot side while the backfield fake sells run action to hold the linebackers. Off the diagram, the three bunch receivers push into a deep crosser, a deep out breaking to the sideline, and a shallow drag that slides underneath across the formation, while the backside receiver runs a comeback (red route) that sits down near the sticks. This is a play-action man beater built off the boot flow, and the primary read progression starts with the shallow slide/drag underneath, works up to the deep crosser sitting behind it, then works backside to the comeback if the pocket buys enough time on the roll.

Defensive Reads

Pre-snap, identify if the defense is showing man coverage on the bunch receivers versus off-man or zone, since the crossing routes create natural rub and separation against tight man technique. Watch linebacker depth and flow at the snap, aggressive run-fit linebackers who crash down open up the shallow drag and deep crosser immediately behind them. Key the flow defender or spy on the boot side, since a disciplined defender staying home in the flow zone can undercut the shallow slide route and force the quarterback to hold the ball. Use this on early downs or manageable third downs where defenses are keying run action from Bunch Ace personnel with 2 TEs on the field.

Read the flow of the linebackers at the snap, if they bite on the play-action fake, the shallow drag and crossing route behind it will be wide open on the boot side.

Roll with your quarterback on the boot and keep your eyes moving from the underneath drag to the deep crosser, this stacked read window punishes man coverage that cannot pass off crossers.

Hot route the backside comeback into a deeper route if you see single high safety looks, since that receiver is isolated versus one defender in most zone shells.
