End Around Lead out of Singleback Bunch Ace is a trick run play designed to get the ball to the receiver in space on a reverse action while the HB leads through the hole as a blocker. Off the diagram, the bunch receiver motions across the formation on the flat red path, taking the handoff going the opposite direction of the initial line flow, while the HB releases downfield and cuts back to lead block for the ball carrier. The offensive line and TEs sell run action to one side before the ball reverses field, making this a zone beater against flowing linebackers and overaggressive fits. Watch for a user controlled defender spying the backfield or sitting on the mesh point, as that is the number one counter to End Around Lead. Look for linebackers reading through the line instead of biting on flow, since patient defenders will fill the cutback lane before the HB lead block can seal it. Man coverage on the bunch receiver can disrupt the jet action at the mesh point, so check for press alignment on that receiver before the snap.

Usage Tips

Call this on early downs or in short yardage when the defense has shown aggressive run fits or fast flowing linebackers on film.

Watch pre-snap for defenders cheating toward the bunch side, since the reverse action is designed to punish overpursuit and outside linebacker crash.

Mix this in after running Inside Zone Split or HB Zone Wk a few times so the defense keys hard on initial flow before you hit them with the reverse.

Do not force the edge if the backside defensive end sits and reads the mesh point, since disciplined ends can blow this up before the ball carrier gets outside.
