Man coverage defenders on the bunch side are the biggest liability here, since the switch release forces them to navigate traffic and often lose the rub, so look for pick plays to spring the crosser wide open. Cover 3 and Cover 4 shells with active zone drops from linebackers can clog the middle crossing lane, so check if the second level defenders are sinking hard before committing to the deep dig. Watch the corner route breaking to the opposite sideline against Cover 2, since the flat defender to that side has to choose between the comeback route and the corner, creating a natural conflict read. User controlled lurk defenders sitting in the shallow crossing lane can jump the route if you throw it too early, so let the play fake fully develop and time the throw to the crosser once it clears the underneath traffic. Aggressive blitz packages that bring extra rushers off the edge can beat this play before the fake sells, so check pre-snap for stacked boxes or overloaded fronts and be ready to get the ball out quickly on the comeback route.
