Stack Y-Flex takes the standard Shotgun 11 personnel look and stacks two receivers to one side while flexing the tight end away from the stack, creating an unbalanced picture that forces the defense to declare its strength before the snap. The stacked pair immediately kills press man coverage because the defenders cannot get hands on both receivers, and any defense that walks a corner up to the point of the stack gives up free access underneath. On the flexed side, the tight end sits in the slot with a wide receiver outside him, which means you are almost always getting a linebacker or a slot defender on your Y in space rather than a corner locked over him.
What separates this set from the base Shotgun 11 sets is the pre-snap read it gives you. Because the stack forces a coverage declaration, you can identify man versus zone quickly by watching whether the two defenders over the stack banjo the release or stay locked. That read unlocks the two-sided nature of the playbook: man beaters like Drive H Wheel, Salem Pivot, and Corner Strike attack from the stack, while zone beaters like Z Spot, Y-Sail, Levels, and Curl Combo flood the flexed side with layered depths. Double Corner and Fade Out are your shot plays when a defense plays soft outside leverage on the stack.
The run and screen game keeps the set honest. HB Draw and Inside Zone work off the same alignment because the defense has to respect three-plus receiving threats, and PA Jailbreak Screen plus HB Slip Screen punish aggressive edge pressure. PA Read gives you an RPO-style option that lets you pull the ball based on the second-level defender's reaction, which is exactly what you want against blitz-heavy users who commit a linebacker downhill. The 3DRB tag means your back is a real receiving threat out of the backfield, so HB Quick Base and the screen package are legitimate answers rather than throwaways.
Read the two defenders over the stack pre-snap: locked leverage means man and you go to Drive H Wheel or Salem Pivot, while both dropping means zone and you take Z Spot or Curl Combo.
On third and medium, use Levels and hot route the flexed Y to a drag underneath so you have a checkdown that beats both man and zone rotation.
Motion the stack point receiver across the formation to confirm man versus zone, then snap into Corner Strike or Fade Out depending on the leverage you get.
Against heavy blitz users, alternate between PA Jailbreak Screen and HB Slip Screen to slow the edge rush, then come back to Double Corner once they play the screen.
Use PA Read as your constraint play in the red zone or on second and short, keeping the defense honest and letting you pull the ball when the second level flows downhill.
Pair Inside Zone and HB Draw out of the same look so the run and play action shots share identical pre-snap presentation.
