Corner Go's Flat is a four-man route concept out of Shotgun Deuce 12 personnel that stacks a vertical stretch on the backside with a flat/drag combo underneath on the frontside. The backside X runs a corner route while the outside receiver on that side clears the flat with a full-field crossing route to the opposite sideline, and the frontside pairs a go route from the outside receiver with a shallow drag from the slot man that settles or continues across the formation. This is a man beater designed to attack leverage on the corner route while giving the quarterback a built-in answer against off coverage with the drag, so the primary read starts at the backside corner route, works to the vertical go on the frontside, and checks down to the crossing drag or flat as the underneath outlet.
Identify the corner route's cornerback pre-snap and check his depth, if he is playing off with outside leverage the corner route has a natural window to work into. Watch the deep safeties at the snap, a two-high shell rotating to bracket the corner route signals you should move to the frontside go or crossing drag instead of forcing the initial read. Track the flat/drag defender's drop, if a linebacker or nickel corner sinks too deep trying to take away the crossing route it opens a throwing lane underneath for the drag as a checkdown. Beware disguised Cover 3 buzz drops from safeties that can undercut the corner route, this coverage shell shuts the play down fast if the quarterback stares down the top read. Look for blitzing linebackers crashing the frontside flat, since the concept has no true screen protection built in this play is vulnerable to quick pressure if the offensive line does not pick up extra rushers.
Use pre-snap motion or a hard count to confirm man versus zone before locking onto the corner route since that route only wins with clean separation against man leverage.
If the defense shows two deep safeties, prioritize the frontside go route immediately since single-high shells tend to bracket the corner route and take away the top read.
Hot route the crossing drag to sit down versus zone coverage so the quarterback has an immediate answer against a soft cushion or a zone drop underneath.
Pair this play with Double Go or PA Slide in the same set to keep defenders honest on both vertical shots and play-action, forcing linebackers and safeties to respect multiple deep threats before committing to the flat.
Best called on second or third and medium to long when you need a explosive gain but still want a checkdown built into the concept in case the corner route is covered.
