Exit RPO Peek Snag is run out of Shotgun Deuce with 12 personnel, showing an RPO shell built on the Snag concept to the field side. The interior receiver runs a quick snag/flat while the outside receiver stems vertically before breaking into a corner route toward the sideline, giving you a horizontal stretch on flat defenders and a vertical shot behind them. The offensive line executes zone run blocking with the running back reading the box count, and the backside slot runs a hitch/peek route as your pre-snap alert against soft coverage. This is a true RPO that functions as both a run play and a Cover 3 beater, with the primary read starting on the numbers in the box before working to the corner route if the defense sells out against the run.
Identify the safety alignment pre-snap, since a single high safety or Cover 3 shell is what this concept is designed to attack with the corner route stretching the deep third defender. Watch linebacker depth at the snap, if they crash down on run action the RPO throw window opens immediately on the snag or corner concept. Man coverage on the outside receiver with no safety help over the top is a green light to trust the corner route as a man beater. User controlled defenders sitting in a lurk position over the snag route can jump the quick flat throw, so respect that threat and be ready to progress to the corner route. Cover 4 or two high safety shells with disciplined slot corners can take away both the snag and the corner route, forcing you to trust the run fit instead of forcing a throw.
Count the box pre-snap and if the defense has a light front, take the give read on the run scheme without hesitation.
If the defense shows a heavy box or an extra defender crashing down, pull the ball and work your eyes to the snag flat before climbing to the corner route.
Use the peek route on the backside as a quick answer against single high safety looks or when the slot corner sits soft, since it is a fast throw that punishes zone defenders sinking on the snag.
Pair this play with Tear Speed Option and Tear Shovel Option in the same set to keep defenses honest on perimeter run fits before coming back to this RPO on early downs.
Best used on first or second down in run heavy personnel packages where defenses are likely to load the box, since the RPO tag punishes overaggressive linebacker fills.
