Breakdown

Bench Swap out of Shotgun Deuce lines up two receivers stacked wide to the left with a TE and RB releasing into the pattern near the core, while a single WR runs a deep corner route up the right sideline. The left side shows a bench (deep out breaking outside) paired with an under route crossing underneath, creating a natural high low read on that side, while the right side isolates the corner route against single coverage with a shallow drag underneath as a checkdown. This is a man beater built to attack space with pick and rub concepts on the left while giving the QB an isolation shot route on the right, so the primary read starts with the deep corner route on the backside for an explosive play, then works to the bench and under combo on the left if the corner is blanketed.

Defensive Reads

Watch the corner over the outside WR on the right, if he is playing off with outside leverage and there is no deep safety help, the corner route is live for a big play. Identify single high safety alignment pre-snap, this play is designed to punish one high shells like Cover 3 or Cover 1 by isolating the corner route on the backside. Post-snap, track the flow of the underneath linebackers on the left, if they widen with the bench route it opens a throwing lane for the under route crossing behind them. Watch for a user controlled defender sitting in a deep third or playing a lurk technique over the middle, since that defender can jump the under route or crash down on the bench route if he reads the QB's eyes. Versus Cover 2 or Cover 4 shells with two deep safeties, the corner route gets taken away, so defenders should shift focus to closing down the left side bench and under combo before it develops.

Usage Tips

Check pre-snap for single high safety looks before locking onto the backside corner route, since that shot only hits versus one high shells or man coverage without a deep half defender over the top.

If the defense shows two high safeties, work your progression to the left side bench and under combo where the rub concept creates natural separation against man coverage.

Use this on early downs or second and medium to keep defenses honest, then follow it up with Bounce PA TE Cross or PA Y Leak from the same set once the defense starts jumping the corner route.

Hot route the RB into a quick flat or check release if you see a blitz look, since the RB is your emergency valve when both outside reads are covered.

Pair this with Corner Go's Flat later in a series so defenders start biting on the flat and open up the deep corner shot again.
