Bounce Inside Zone Split lines up out of Shotgun Deuce with 12 personnel, showing a tight bunched offensive line and a single running back stacked in the backfield alongside the QB. The diagram shows the RB path bending laterally behind the line before working downhill, indicating a bounce-designed inside zone scheme where the line blocks zone but the back is coached to bounce outside if the interior gets clogged. This is a pure run play built to attack overloaded fronts and gap-plugging linebackers, with the primary read being the frontside double team and playside linebacker flow before deciding to bounce it outside or cut back through the vacated B gap.
Watch for linebacker depth at the snap, if they flow hard to the frontside gap the bounce lane opens up for a big cutback gain. Identify if the defense is running a 4-3 under front or an odd front with a stacked nose, as heavy interior fronts get sealed easier by the zone blocking. Key the playside defensive end and outside linebacker leverage, if they crash inside immediately the bounce path outside becomes the higher value read. Look for user-controlled defenders flowing to contain, since a disciplined edge defender staying home can shut down the bounce lane completely. Beware of blitz packages that bring extra defenders off the edge pre-snap, this can outnumber the blocking scheme and force a quick cutback decision.
Use this play when you see linebackers crashing hard downhill or a defensive front that is stacked heavy in the box to attack the bounce lane.
Check for extra defenders in the box pre-snap and use motion to identify if the defense is in man or zone before the snap.
Pair this with Inside Zone and Bounce Outside Zone in the same set to keep defenders honest and prevent them from keying the bounce lane every snap.
Best used on early downs (1st and 10 or 2nd and short) when defenses are more likely to run base fronts instead of nickel or dime looks.
If the defense shows a stacked box with safeties creeping down, consider audibling to Lead Read Option or PA Slide to counter the run blitz look.
