Under 4t is the defensive front variation inside the 3-4 formation that shifts the line into an under alignment with a true 4 technique tackle, giving you a heavier gap structure than standard 3-4 sets while still keeping four linebackers on the field. The Base 5-2 personnel group means you are getting your best interior run stoppers alongside two edge players tagged as RLE and RRE, with the NT anchoring the middle. That NT tag matters: the nose plugs the A gaps without needing linebacker help, which frees the inside stack to flow sideline to sideline instead of getting washed on inside zone and duo.

Where Under 4t separates itself from other 3-4 sets is the natural gap integrity against strong side runs paired with a legitimate blitz menu. Pinch Buck 0, Dbl Safety Blitz, Saw Blitz 1, Weak Blitz 1, and Weak Blitz 3 all attack from different angles off the same shell, so you can run pressure looks that appear identical pre-snap. Because the front is already slanted, edge pressure from the RLE and RRE gets home faster than it does from balanced 3-4 alignments, which is the whole point of living here on second and long.

Coverage wise, this set is deep. You get the full quarters and match family (Cover 4 Quarters, Cover 6, Cover 3 Match), robber and hole concepts (Cover 1 Robber Press, Cover 1 Hole WK), invert shells (Cover 2 Invert, Cover 2 Invert Hard Flat), and spot drop staples (Cover 3 Sky, Cover 3 Hard Flat, FS Slant 3). Against spread sets, the Base 5-2 personnel is a liability on slot matchups, so the counter is press man with a robber and a user linebacker taking away the dig or seam. Against heavy personnel, the same front gives you a run fit that does not require safety help, letting your FS sit deep and play center field.
