Over Solid is a defensive set inside the 3-4 formation, so everything here is about coverage disguise and gap integrity rather than route combos. The alignment shifts the front to the strength of the offense (the "Over" call) while the secondary plays a "Solid" two deep, four under starting point, which means your pre snap shell looks identical on Cover 2 Invert, Tampa 2, and Cover 4 Quarters. That shared picture is the whole selling point: the quarterback sees the same two high look whether you are dropping into quarters match, spinning the free safety down on FS Blitz, or sending everybody on Hammer 0 Blast.
The personnel is listed as Base 5-2, which in practice gives you a heavy interior with the NT tag anchoring the A gaps and two edge players who can either set the edge or convert into rushers. Compared to other 3-4 sets that spread linebackers into wide alignments, Over Solid keeps the second level condensed and inside the tackle box, which is why it holds up against inside zone, duo, and QB power reads. The tradeoff is that your run fits are strong but your flat coverage depends on linebackers, not slot defenders.
Where this set isolates receivers is in the man calls. Cover 1 Sting and Hammer 0 Blast leave you in true one on one matchups with a rat or robber presence underneath, so you can user the deep middle and bait the seam throw. Cover 3 Sky WK and Cover 3 Match let you keep the same front while rotating the strong safety into the flat, which shuts down the quick out and comeback game that beats standard Cover 3. Saw O Blast is your pressure changeup out of the same shell, giving you a way to punish empty and 3x1 sets that expect zone.
Live in Cover 3 Match and Cover 4 Quarters on early downs, then use FS Blitz on second and long when the offense expects a two high zone drop.
Save Hammer 0 Blast and Saw O Blast for third down and short yardage where the offense has to hold the ball, and check the protection count pre snap before committing.
User the deep middle in Tampa 2 and the boundary corner in Cover 2 Invert, since those are the two spots this set naturally leaves soft.
Manually shift your front and reset the strength after any offensive motion so the Over alignment stays matched to the tight end side.
Mix Cover 1 Sting with your zone calls to break tendency, and drop a linebacker into the hook to help against drag and shallow cross combos.
