Mtn Jet Slot Choice is a play-action pass out of Singleback Y Trips Close that uses a jet motion fake to hold linebackers before the quarterback rolls into a boot-style movement. The trips side runs a choice route from the slot along with a mountain (vertical stack) concept from the closed side, giving the quarterback a high low read against both man and zone coverage. Primary read progression starts with the choice route breaking off the slot defender's leverage, then works to the mountain concept vertical stems if the underneath defender sits, and finally checks down to the flat control if the pocket collapses.
Pre-snap, check safety depth and alignment. A single high safety cheating toward the trips side signals man coverage and tells you to attack the choice route immediately. Watch cornerback press alignment on the slot receiver running the choice route. Soft coverage means an easy underneath conversion, while press coverage means you should look to the mountain concept for a vertical win. Post-snap, track linebacker reaction to the jet motion. If they flow hard with the sweep fake, the boot lane and choice route both open up against the grain. Beware of a user controlled lurk defender sitting in the shallow zone behind the choice route break, since this play struggles against a spy or a robber technique that reads the quarterback's eyes. This play is vulnerable to disguised zone blitzes off the closed side edge since the boot action can get the quarterback rolling into pressure, so account for overload blitz packages before snapping.
Use the jet motion pre-snap to bait linebackers into flowing with the sweep action, which opens up the boot lanes and slows down edge defenders keying run.
Identify the coverage shell before the snap. Against single high safety looks, target the choice route since the defender has to declare in or out based on your break, punishing man coverage.
Against two high shells, work the mountain concept vertical stems since the deep half safeties will be occupied and the choice route becomes a high percentage completion versus zone drops.
