Jet 6 Soar is a vertical shot play out of Singleback Y Trips Close designed to attack single high safety looks and man coverage on the trips side. The trips receivers run a soar concept with a deep corner or go route from the outside stack combined with a seam or bench route from the slot, stretching the cornerback and safety vertically while the backside receiver runs a dig or crosser to hold the middle linebacker. The primary read starts with the outside deep route against the corner and safety, then works down to the seam or bench route in the void created by the vertical stretch, with the backside route as the checkdown against zone drops.
Identify single high safety alignment pre-snap since that tells you the deep middle is exposed for the corner or go route on the trips side. Watch the cornerback's press or off alignment, press man is a green light for the soar route to win outside while off man favors the seam or bench route sitting in the void. Post-snap, track the middle linebacker's drop, if he sinks late or bites on the underneath crosser the backside dig will be open against zone coverage. Beware Cover 3 or Cover 4 shells with a hard flat defender or lurk defender sitting underneath, that defender can jump the seam route if the quarterback holds it too long. Two high safety shells like Cover 2 or Cover 4 shut down the deep shot unless the corner gets beat off the line, so be ready to check down rather than force the vertical route into a bracket.
Call this on second or third and long when you need to punish a defense sitting in single high or press man coverage. Check pre-snap for a lone deep safety, if the safety cheats to the trips side, work your check to the backside dig instead of forcing the go route. Use motion or a quick pre-snap glance to bait the corner into press so your outside soar route wins with a hard release. Pair this shot play with WR Screen or HB Dive earlier in a series to get defenders creeping downhill on run fits, then hit this over the top once linebackers and safeties start biting. If the defense shows two high shells, hot route the underneath receiver into a shorter option or check it down to HB Dive tendencies since the deep windows will be tighter with two safeties over the top.
