Singleback Wing Flex is the 12 personnel oddball of the Singleback family, pairing a flexed tight end out wide with a second tight end set as a wing just off the tackle. Where sets like Singleback Ace or Doubles give you balanced two by two spacing, Wing Flex intentionally creates an unbalanced surface: you get an extra body attached to the line for run leverage while the flexed tight end works as a big slot or isolated X on the opposite side. That asymmetry is the whole point, because defenses have to declare strength pre-snap, and once they do you know exactly where the extra man went.
The play list is short but deliberate. 0 1 Trap gets a downhill interior run behind the wing's angle block, which punishes defenses that widen their fronts to respect the flex. Slot Fade Shot is the vertical answer off that same look, isolating your bigger receiver or tight end on a fade against a smaller nickel or a linebacker who got left in coverage. PA Fl Dive is the play action element that ties the run and the shot together, freezing pursuit and giving you a flat option after the fake. The Gadget tag means you should treat this as a package set rather than a base call, and the personnel mismatch is the currency: if the defense stays in base or big personnel to stop 0 1 Trap, your flexed tight end wins on the fade, and if they go nickel or dime, the trap and dive plays get downhill quickly.
Because there are only three plays, motion and hot routes carry a lot of the load here. Motioning the wing across the formation flips the strength and forces defenses in man to chase, which is one of the cleanest pre-snap coverage reads available in the game. Flexing the wing wider or bringing the flexed tight end tight lets you run the same three plays out of visually different looks, which matters a lot when you are running this set repeatedly against a user who adjusts fast.
Establish 0 1 Trap early on first and second down so PA Fl Dive has real credibility later, then run the play action on the same down and distance you ran the trap.
Call Slot Fade Shot when you see single high with a linebacker or nickel walked over your flexed tight end, and check the pre-snap motion of the wing first to confirm the defense is in man before committing to the fade.
Motion the wing across pre-snap and watch the reaction: if a defender mirrors, run Slot Fade Shot into the vacated side, and if nobody follows, you are in zone and 0 1 Trap or the flat route off PA Fl Dive gets easier yards.
Use this as a package set in the red zone or third and short, not as a base call, because the Gadget tag reflects a small play list that gets solved when spammed.
Hot route the wing to a flat or drag on Slot Fade Shot to build a quick checkdown, which protects you against the interior pressure this set struggles to block.
