PA Jet Sweep X Out from Singleback Doubles Y Off dresses up the jet sweep look with a play action passing concept off the same motion. The X receiver runs a quick out to the flat off the fake sweep action, one slot receiver runs a shallow drag underneath while the backside receiver clears out with a deep post cut across the field, and the far outside receiver runs a comeback style route breaking back toward the sideline. The primary read is the X out in the flat since the jet motion holds the flow of the linebackers and forces the corner to respect the sweep before the QB comes off play action to hit the quick out for easy yardage, with the drag as the secondary check down against zone drops.
Key on the flow of the linebackers at the snap, if they bite on jet motion and crash toward the sweep side the X out will be wide open in the flat. Watch the corner over the X receiver, if he sits deep in a zone drop rather than stepping up to play the out he is vulnerable to the quick pass. Man coverage corners who trail the jet motion man out of habit will get beat since this is a play action pass, not the actual sweep, so discipline reading the QB is essential. Send a user controlled defender to spy the flat or drop a linebacker into the shallow zone to take away both the out and the drag underneath. Cover 3 and Cover 4 shells with disciplined linebackers who hold contain and do not overreact to jet motion shut this play down completely.
Use this on early downs like first or second and short to medium yardage when defenses are keyed on stopping the run out of Singleback personnel. Watch the linebacker depth pre-snap, if they crash down hard on jet motion you have a clean throwing lane to the X out before the corner can recover. Pair this with Jet Sweep and Jet HB Trap earlier in a series so the defense starts biting on run action, then hit them with this play action shot for a big chunk gain. Hot route the drag route into a deeper in-cut if you see zone defenders sitting underneath to open a passing lane. Best called against aggressive run fits or defenses showing Cover 3 shells since the flow toward the motion man opens the boundary throw.
