Jet PA Y Screen fakes the jet sweep motion across the backfield before selling play-action to hold the linebackers, then leaks the Y (TE) out to the flat behind a wall of blockers for a screen. Both outside receivers push vertical stems upfield to clear out the deep zones and hold corners and safeties, while the offensive line and remaining backs set up a screen wall in front of the TE. This is a screen pass built to punish overaggressive pass rushes and blitzes, with the primary read being the Y screen underneath, checking down to the cleared-out vertical routes only if the screen is jumped by a defender in the flat.
Defensive Reads
Pre-snap, identify if the defense is selling out on the jet sweep motion with linebackers cheating toward the fake, since that opens the Y screen lane. Key any user-controlled defender spying the TE or sitting in a shallow zone near the line, as they can jump the screen before the blockers get set. Watch safety depth: if both safeties bail deep to cover the vertical clear-out routes, the underneath screen has extra room to develop. Post-snap, track linebacker pursuit angles; if they overcommit to the play-action fake or motion, the screen wall will have a clean numbers advantage. Man coverage with aggressive underneath linebackers or a well-timed inside blitz can blow this play up, since defenders can read the screen fake quickly and close before the wall is set.

Call this on early downs or after establishing the jet sweep run to bait linebackers into flowing hard toward the motion fake.
Watch for pre-snap blitz indicators like linebackers creeping to the line or safeties rotating down, since this screen thrives against pressure.
If the defense shows zone with linebackers sitting in shallow drops, be patient and let your blockers set the wall before checking the Y out.
Pair this with Jet Sweep and Jet HB Trap earlier in a drive so the defense keys on the jet motion, making the screen fake even more effective later.
Avoid calling this against disciplined defenses that spy the TE or use a linebacker who reads screen quickly, since they will blow it up before the wall forms.
