PA Power O sells the HB Power O run action with the fullback style lead blocker step working the same gap before the quarterback pulls and rolls into the pocket off play action. This is a play-action shot play built off a run scheme, designed to freeze linebackers and attack a single high or aggressive robber shell. The primary read starts with the deep shot to the outside receiver on the play side, then works back to the intermediate crosser or seam route that develops as the linebackers bite on the run fake, with the check down releasing late out of the backfield as the last resort.
Pre-snap, identify single high safety alignment and linebacker depth crowding the box, since that tells you the defense is keying run and will be vulnerable to the play fake. Watch cornerback press alignment on the outside receiver, since man coverage with no safety help over the top is the biggest indicator this play hits for a big gain. Post-snap, key the linebackers immediately after the snap, if they step up into the run fit hard you have a clean window on the crosser or seam route. Beware of a two high shell that stays true to zone drops, since those safeties can sink into the deep middle and take away the shot route, forcing the checkdown. Watch for user controlled defenders spying or lurking in the shallow zone, since a smart user will sit on the crossing route read and jump the throw if the quarterback stares it down too long.
Run this from early down and distance situations, ideally first or second and short to medium, so the run fake actually holds linebackers and safeties who are keying tendencies. Look for a single high safety shell or aggressive nickel blitz look pre-snap, since those defenses bite hardest on the Power O run fake and open up the play action shot downfield. Hot route the shallow crosser into a deeper dig or comeback if you see soft zone dropping underneath, since the stock route can sit short of sticks against a zone shell that stays deep. Pair this play in sequence with HB Power O and HB Ace Power earlier in a drive so the defense respects the run fit, then dial up PA Power O once you see linebackers stepping up hard on run keys. Use max protect adjustments or check the fullback into a chip block against four man pressure looks, since the play action drop takes time to develop and the quarterback needs a clean pocket to hit the deep shot.
