PA Jet Cross runs a play action fake off jet motion, holding linebackers with the run threat before the passing concept develops. Off the fake, one receiver runs a deep crosser all the way across the formation while another attacks vertically up the numbers on a go route, and a third receiver runs a shallow drag underneath from the opposite side. The line executes play action pass protection, selling run before setting to block, and the primary read is the deep crosser working across the field with the underneath drag as the check down against pressure or a jumped route.
Defensive Reads
Pre snap, check if a linebacker or slot defender shifts to shadow the jet motion man, since that confirms man coverage and tells you the crosser should win late. Watch safety depth before the snap: two high safeties suggest zone coverage where the deep crosser will have to work through traffic, while a single high safety often means man coverage underneath. Post snap, key the flow of the middle linebacker, since if he bites on the play action fake the crosser has a clean lane across the field. This concept struggles against a hard blitz that beats the play action protection before the crosser develops, so watch for extra rushers crashing the edge off the play fake. Zone defenses with a robber or lurk defender sitting in the crosser's path can jump the route, so identify if there's a defender sinking into the middle throwing window before committing to that read.
Usage Tips
Use the jet motion pre snap to identify if the defense shifts a linebacker or defender to follow the motion man, which tells you if you are facing man coverage. Call this on early downs or second and medium when defenses are still respecting the run fake from this personnel group. Progression read the deep crosser first since it stretches zone defenders horizontally and creates natural separation against man coverage trailing across the field. If the underneath drag is wide open against a soft zone shell, take the quick completion instead of holding the ball for the deeper crosser.
