Go DBL Post out of Shotgun Trips Y-Flex sends both the inline TE and the outside trips receiver vertical into post routes that stack the middle of the field, while the slot receiver runs a deep crosser underneath from the opposite boundary and the backside receiver runs a shallow drag across the formation. The lone receiver on the backside line runs a corner breaking route to hold the flat defender and clear space. This is a man beater and a Cover 2 or Cover 4 beater designed to overload one deep safety with two post routes converging on the same landmark, and the primary read progression is the outside post first (look for the safety leaning underneath), then work back to the inline post if the safety jumps the first one, with the deep crosser as the checkdown against zone drops underneath.
Pre-snap identify the deep safety count: one high safety is a green light for the double post concept, two high safeties means the post window is contested and you should prioritize the deep cross. Post-snap, watch the middle linebacker or the deep safety for a lurk read sitting on the post routes, if he sinks hard the deep crosser will be wide open behind him. Man coverage with no safety help over the top gets shredded by the post that wins inside leverage first, so bail to zone if you see trips getting a free release against man. Cover 4 quarters coverage can hold up if the safeties stay disciplined on their post reads, use a fire zone blitz to speed up the quarterback's clock and force a premature throw. Watch for a nano blitz off the edge since the protection is a standard five man slide, if the blitz wins fast the quarterback will not get through the full progression to the second post.
Attack single high shells like Cover 1 and Cover 3 where only one deep defender has to cover both posts, this is where the concept wins most consistently.
Pre-snap, check the safety alignment: if you see two deep safeties split wide (Cover 2 or Cover 4), the double post window shrinks, so be ready to climb your progression to the deep cross underneath instead of forcing the post.
Use motion or a hot route on the backside drag to turn it into a丰 or manual user route if the defense is playing man, since it naturally works away from trips leverage.
Pair this with Four Verticals and Curls earlier in a series so the defense respects vertical stress from trips, then hit Go DBL Post when you see the safety start jumping shorter routes.
On third and long, this is a great shot play because both posts occupy the same vertical plane and force a hard choice from a single high defender, but avoid calling it on third and short since the routes take time to develop.
