Breakdown

Y Out N Up is a five man route concept out of Shotgun Trips TE Flex that stresses the boundary with an out and up from the flexed Y while the trips side runs a stacked flood concept. The three receivers to the trips side run a shallow out, a deeper out, and a corner-breaking route that clears the flat and sideline, while the flexed TE (Y) sells an out route before snapping vertically up the seam for the big play. This is a man beater at its core, designed to punish outside leverage and aggressive flat defenders with the double move, with the primary read progressing from the Y out and up on the backside first, then working to the trips flood concept if the safety jumps the vertical.

Defensive Reads

Watch the corner aligned over the flexed TE before the snap, if he is playing tight man with no safety help over the top, expect the up route to be live Key the flat defender or slot corner on the trips side, if he sits on the shallow out route it opens throwing lanes for the deeper out and corner routes Identify single high safety shells like Cover 1 or Cover 3, since this play is designed to exploit the lack of deep help against the double move If the defense rotates to two high safeties post snap or shows Cover 4, the up route will be capped, so bail out to the trips flood concept quickly Look for user controlled defenders lurking in the flat or jumping the shallow out route, since aggressive user play on the trips side can bait a big throw over the top if the Y up route is left uncovered

Usage Tips

Attack single high or man coverage shells where the corner over the flexed TE is playing tight outside leverage, since the out and up is built to freeze him and win over the top

Use pre-snap motion or a hard count to bait the defense into showing man coverage before the snap, then key the flexed corner's hips to decide if you throw the double move early

If the defense shows two high safeties, look to the trips side flood first since the out and up loses some of its explosiveness against zone drops with help over the top

Pair this play with Y Corner Stop or Mtn Hitch N Go from the same set to keep defenders guessing on double moves from the same alignment

On third and long, this play is a strong shot call since the Y up route can house it if the corner bites on the out, but have a checkdown to the shallow out ready if the blitz gets home fast
