Mtn Fork H Choice is a trips-based pass concept out of Shotgun Trips TE Flex with the H receiver motioning across the formation before the snap. At the top of the screen the outside trips receiver runs a deep corner route while the inside slot pushes a vertical seam that stems into the corner's window, creating a natural high-low crossing stem that stresses zone defenders. To the backside, the flexed TE runs a fork route (an out that breaks into a deeper comeback-style option) while the motion man settles underneath on a shallow drag, giving the quarterback a two-level answer against both man and zone. The primary read starts with the vertical seam-to-corner combo on the trips side, and if that window is closed the quarterback works back to the H choice route on the backside for a quick, controlled completion.
Watch the motion man at the snap: if a linebacker or slot corner mirrors him across the formation, that confirms man coverage and the choice route should win on a hard break. Read the safety depth before the snap; a single-high shell invites the corner route on the trips side, while two deep safeties suggest the seam route is the better answer underneath the safety's landmark. Post-snap, track the flat defender on the trips side since he determines whether the seam sits or gets picked off in a cover 3 or cover 4 shell. User-controlled defenders sitting in the shallow drag lane can jump the H choice route quickly, so avoid forcing that throw against defenders clearly sinking into that window. Look for corner blitzes or nano blitzes off the edge, since the fork route's deeper stem takes time to develop and can leave the quarterback exposed if protection is not accounted for.
Use the H motion pre-snap to identify man versus zone: if a defender trails the motion man across the formation, you are getting man coverage and the choice route becomes a live option against that defender's leverage.
Against zone shells, key on the seam runner splitting the trips side: this route is designed to sit in the void between the flat defender and the deep safety, so throw it as soon as the seam clears the linebacker level.
On third and medium situations, prioritize the corner route at the top since it stretches the deep third and gives the quarterback a chance at a big chunk play if the safety bites on the seam.
Pair this play with Mtn Y Post or Verticals in the same set to keep defenders honest on the deep middle, then come back to Mtn Fork H Choice once they start cheating a safety over the top.
If the defense shows heavy blitz pre-snap, hot route the underneath drag into a quick option or check to the H choice route immediately since it is the fastest developing throw in the concept.
