Trio HB Wk is a 3x1 gun alignment out of 11 personnel that puts the trips side to the strong side and flips the running back to the weak side of the formation, opposite the bunch of receivers. That backfield placement is the whole point: the HB is aligned away from the three receiver surface, which changes run fits, screen angles, and RPO reads compared to standard Trio sets where the back sits to the strength. You get a single receiver isolated on the weak side with the back next to the QB on that same side, so the defense has to decide whether to overload the trips or keep bodies near the run.
Because the back is weak, the RPO menu in this set is deep and genuinely readable. RPO Read Buck Bubble, RPO Buck Read Bubble, RPO Buck Peek, RPO Alert Buck, RPO Alert Bubble, and RPO Pin Alert Bubble all give you a pull scheme going one way with a bubble or alert attached to the trips side, meaning you can punish a defense that walks the apex defender down into the box. The zone game (Inside Zone, Wide Zone, Wide Zone Read, Reload Inside Zone, Buck Sweep Read Opt) runs cleanly toward or away from the three receiver side, and Speed Option plus QB Blast add a designed QB element that forces users to actually assign an edge player.
The passing tree leans on sprint out and play action shots, which is where the isolated single receiver earns money. Sprint Rub Flat, Sprint Smash, and Sprint Spot move the launch point and shrink the field read to half, while PA Y Cross, PA Cross Sit, Reload PA Flood, and Flood Pylon Shot stress deep defenders after a run fake that the defense has already been conditioned to respect. Dagger Sit and Verticals attack the middle when the third receiver clears out the hook player, and HB Slip Screen plus Jet Chip Wasp punish aggressive edge pressure. Tag your SLWR (slot receiver) and 3DRB (third down back) to make the trips side and the checkdown game unguardable in man.
Read the apex defender pre snap on every RPO call: if the nickel walks inside the tackle box, take the bubble on RPO Alert Bubble or RPO Buck Read Bubble instead of handing the ball off.
Use Sprint Spot and Sprint Rub Flat on third and medium against man heavy shells, then flip to Sprint Smash when you see the corner sitting flat footed at seven yards with safety help over the top.
Establish Inside Zone and Wide Zone early so the linebackers commit downhill, which is what makes PA Y Cross and Flood Pylon Shot break wide open behind the second level.
Hot route the single weak side receiver to a slant or fade based on leverage: press bail means fade, inside shade means slant, and that read alone gives you an answer against most one high looks.
Call HB Slip Screen or Jet Chip Wasp after two or three straight dropback passes against a heavy blitzing opponent, and mix in QB Blast or Speed Option in short yardage when the defense sells out for the interior run.
