If the defense shows two deep safeties with linebackers sitting at intermediate depth, expect a Cover 2 or Cover 4 shell that can undercut the deep crosser, so be ready to work the shallow route instead. Post snap, identify any user controlled defender sitting in a lurk spot in the middle of the field, since that defender can jump the crossing routes if the quarterback holds the ball too long. Zone blitzes that bring extra rushers while dropping a linebacker into the crosser lane can disrupt this concept, so recognize disguised pressure by watching for late linebacker walk ups before the snap. Cover 3 with a hard flat defender can squeeze the shallow crosser, so if you see a single high safety and aggressive corners playing outside leverage, prioritize the deep crosser or tight end check release instead.
