Cross H Divide out of Shotgun Tight sends the two outside receivers on deep divide routes, one going deep corner and one going deep over the middle, while the inline TE releases into a deep dig that sits under those verticals. The slot receiver runs a shallow crosser underneath everything, dragging across the formation as the primary man beater, and the HB stays in to check block before leaking out to the flat. This is a pure dropback pass concept built to stress zone defenders vertically while giving the crosser an easy answer against man coverage, with the crosser as the first read and the deep dig as the second read if the defense sits on the shallow route.

Defensive Reads

Read the safeties before the snap, two high safeties often means the defense is protecting the divide routes and daring you to hit the crosser. Watch the linebackers depth at the snap, if they sink deep into zone drops the shallow crosser will have a soft window right behind them. Key any user controlled defender flowing toward the crosser, that lurk threat can jump the route and turn it into a turnover. Cover 3 with a hard flat defender can squeeze the crosser early, so be ready to reset to the deep dig from the TE. Man coverage with no safety help over the top is the best matchup for the divide routes on the outside, since it isolates your receivers on vertical routes.

Usage Tips

Use this play on second or third and medium when you have time to let the crosser develop across the field.

Pre-snap, identify if the defense is showing two high safeties, since the divide routes stretch the deep half defenders and open the crosser underneath.

Hot route the HB to a flat route instead of the check release if you see a blitz look, giving your quarterback a quick outlet against pressure.

Pair this play with Y Cross or Mesh from the same set to keep the defense guessing on whether the shallow crosser or the deep dig is the primary target.

Against man coverage, take the crosser immediately off the catch and look to pick up extra yards after the catch with the linebacker trailing.
