Dbl Mtn Duo Wrap is a Duo-blocking run play out of the Pistol Bunch 11 personnel look, designed to hit downhill through the interior with a wrap block from the play side tackle. The diagram shows the offensive line double-teaming at the point of attack before climbing to the second level, while the HB takes a slight one-step path from the pistol alignment before pressing into the hole. This is a power-gap run play built to move linebackers off the ball, and the primary read progression for the ball carrier is to press the initial double team, then read the play side linebacker's flow before deciding to bounce or stick the wrap block lane.
Watch for a 4-3 under front or a bear front with the nose shaded to the play side, both of these alignments clog the double team and force a negative play. Key the Mike linebacker's first step, if he flows hard downhill without hesitation the wrap block should seal him and open a crease for the HB. Beware of a user-controlled linebacker sitting in the A or B gap pre-snap, since a smart user can shoot the gap before the double team sets and blow up the Duo scheme. Look for safety rotation to the Bunch side, if both safeties cheat toward the trips look it signals man coverage and a lighter box, which favors this run. Against a 3-4 odd stack with the outside linebacker crashing down hard off the edge, expect the wrap blocker to get beat, so be ready to bounce the run outside rather than force it inside.
Use pre-snap motion if available to identify whether the defense is in man or zone, since Duo runs thrive against light boxes with fewer than seven defenders in the box.
Check the strong safety and Will linebacker depth before the snap, if they are sitting tight to the line this play may get gummed up, so consider audibling to HB Slip Screen or HB Draw to punish an aggressive front.
Pair this run with Dbl Mtn PA Stretch and Read Option Wk in the same set to keep linebackers honest, since the run action and mesh points look nearly identical pre-snap.
Best called on early downs (1st and 10, 2nd and short) when you want to establish tempo and set up later play-action shots off the same Bunch look.
If the defense stacks the box with 8 defenders, kill this play at the line and go to Curl Flat or Slant Spacing to attack the vacated underneath zones instead.
