Breakdown

Dash Flood is a boot action pass concept out of Pistol Bunch that floods one side of the field with three levels of route depth, creating a classic high low read for the quarterback on the play action or dash boot fake. The bunch alignment lets the outside receiver push vertical while the underneath routes settle into the flat and intermediate area, stretching zone defenders horizontally and vertically at the same time. This is primarily a zone beater since the flood concept exploits any defender trying to cover multiple levels, though it can work against man coverage if the flat route wins immediate separation off the bunch traffic release. The primary progression starts with the deep route to see if a corner bites on the dash action, then works down to the intermediate crosser, and finishes with the checkdown flat route as the outlet.

Defensive Reads

Read the flat defender first since Cover 3 and Cover 4 shells often leave a linebacker responsible for two levels he cannot physically cover Watch for a user controlled safety sitting on the deep route, if he bites on the play fake the intermediate crosser will be wide open behind him Check linebacker depth at the snap, shallow linebackers signal man coverage or a blitz look while deep drops indicate zone with flood vulnerability Identify Cover 1 or Cover 0 pressure by counting box defenders, if the defense brings extra rushers the checkdown flat route becomes the automatic answer against the blitz Beware of a hard edge contain defender who does not respect the boot fake, this defender can blow up the play design before the quarterback gets outside the pocket This concept struggles against a sky or cloud rotation with a linebacker spying the boot since it removes the natural flat void the play is designed to attack

Usage Tips

Look for two high safety shells before the snap since Dash Flood punishes defenses that drop a linebacker into the intermediate flood zone he cannot cover alone

Use the dash boot fake to manipulate edge defenders and contain players, especially against aggressive pass rush teams that crash hard on run action

Hot route the underneath flat defender into a quick out if you see Cover 2 or Cover 4 since the corner will sink deep and leave the flat wide open

Pair this call with HB Duo or HB Counter earlier in a series so the play action boot draws linebackers up before you dial up Dash Flood off the same run look

Best used on second or third and medium since the three level flood gives you a high percentage checkdown while still threatening explosive plays over the top

Against man coverage, motion or shift the bunch to create natural rub traffic that helps the shallow route separate off the line
