Jet Touch Pass out of Pistol Bunch TE is a jet motion touch pass built to get an instant horizontal stretch on the perimeter. The diagram shows the motion man sweeping across the formation while another receiver runs a shallow crossing route underneath, giving the quarterback a touch pass option to the jet man or a quick pitch style throw as the primary read. This is a quick game, tempo based play that functions as a horizontal stretch concept rather than a true man or zone beater, designed to get the ball out before the defense can rally to the flank.
Defensive Reads
Pre snap, check if the defense shifts linebackers or a slot corner toward the bunch side, since that shows they are keying the jet motion. Watch for a flat defender or cornerback sitting outside the numbers, as this is the primary defender who has to be beaten for the touch pass to hit. Cover 3 and Cover 4 shells with an aggressive flat corner will shut this down quickly if the defender squats on the route instead of biting on run action. Post snap, look for a user controlled linebacker flowing hard to the sideline, since that lurk threat can jump the touch pass and turn it into a house call the other way. If the defense shows heavy blitz with edge defenders crashing inside, the perimeter should be soft and the jet touch pass becomes an easy chunk gain.
Usage Tips
Snap the ball as soon as the jet motion man crosses the backfield to keep defenders from diagnosing the direction of the play. Use this on early downs or short yardage third downs where defenses are more likely to sit in base zone looks with linebackers cheating inside. If the cornerback to the motion side crashes down hard, hot route the outside receiver on a vertical to punish an overaggressive defense. Pair this with Jet Fk Inside Zone and Speed Option in the same set so the defense has to respect both the true jet touch pass and the run fakes off the same motion look. Against teams that user the flat defender aggressively, fake the touch pass and let the QB tuck it for extra yardage since the diagram shows no deep route threatening the defense over the top.
