Jet Touch Pass Fk HB is a jet motion touch pass out of Pistol Bunch TE that fakes the HB jet sweep before the QB flips it to the motion man on the perimeter. The diagram shows the receiver in jet motion crossing behind the QB and getting the touch pass in stride, with the offensive line and TE setting up run blocking to sell the sweep fake. The primary read is the jet man on the touch throw, and if he is bottled up the QB can look to the frontside route combo from the bunch as a backup progression.
Watch for slow flowing linebackers who bite on the jet motion, this is the exact leak this play is designed to exploit. If the defense shows a hard edge set with a contain defender staying home on the jet motion, this play gets shut down quickly. Man coverage with press corners on the perimeter can jump the touch pass if the defender reads the QB eyes early, so look for off coverage before calling this. Cover 3 or Cover 4 shells with disciplined flow defenders will not overcommit and can rally to the touch pass before it develops. Post-snap, key any user-controlled defender flying downhill on the fake HB run action, since that is the lane the touch pass is designed to exploit.
Use this play when defenses are keying hard on your outside run game to punish overpursuit from linebackers and edge defenders.
Snap the ball right as the jet man crosses the frame so the timing of the touch pass matches his stride, otherwise the throw will sail behind him.
Check the flow of the second level defenders pre-snap, if the linebackers are cheating to the run side of the jet motion this play hits fastest.
Pair this with Fk Jet Inside Zone and HB Counter in the same set so defenses cannot distinguish the run fake from the actual touch pass action.
Best used on early downs or in space situations like 2nd and short where defenses are more willing to sell out on run action.
